Are you jealous of people who can not only play the guitar but appear to really know their way around the instrument too? The internet has completely changed the way people learn and learning an instrument, including the guitar, is no exemption. Practically anyone can just pick up a guitar and play a song of their choice by searching for the chords online and see how chords are played or they can simply go look at video tutorials. Countless of times I've done these and just as often I would claim that I actually know how to play the guitar.
But if I could be honest in my assessment, this isn't really "real playing". Real playing goes beyond this mimicking; it means being able to recognize basic chord progressions, at least, or how and which chords go together and how and which do not. It's basically just "playing around" with the guitar this mock playing. If you have gone through these learning methods and you find that you are still so eager to learn more and beyond what these methods offer, then I think it is high time you consider getting a good program. There is one important tip you need to learn if you're just starting to learn the guitar. Programs, no matter how award-winning (which is what Steve Krenz's program is, by the way) can only do so much. In order to be a good, let alone a great, guitar player, you need to include in the equation hard work and perseverance. Dedication to consistent and constant practice is the product of perseverance; in turn, perseverance is fuelled by passion and the unflinching desire to learn.
Another issue that no student of the guitar instrument can escape is the pain that goes with each practice. You will literally feel pain from the tips of fingers to your knuckles, neck, shoulders and back. If you want to minimize or avoid the pain, you can do so by making sure that you stretch before you get down to business and take breaks and stretch out every after 30 to 45 minutes of practice. One pain that can be quite hard to deal with is that which you'll get in your fingertips (blisters) from holding the chord for too long because there's no stretching that part of the body. The only way around this is to allow calluses to build up so it would no longer hurt when you play in the future.
