People have always found music to be very relaxing. Some sounds are more pleasant than others and in this category falls the guitar. It also helps that it is easy to use and to play songs on it. If you know how to use the internet you can find almost any song you want to play. Another thing that makes the guitar a favorite instrument is the fact that you can learn to read and play songs without having to go through exhausting lessons of music theory.
Music sheets for guitar are different from music sheets for other instruments. Most guitarists have taught themselves how to play the instrument and as a consequence they had no interest in learning about music theory. Although it is possible to play the guitar from standard notation, guitar players use a different system, one that it easy to read by anyone who is only interested in playing a few songs. The guitar tablature notation uses a tab staff with 6 lines, while the standard notation uses a staff with only 5 lines. The tab staff has 6 lines because most guitars have 6 strings. The numbers on these lines indicate the fret the corresponding string should be played on. A 0 on the 6th string means that it is an open string and a x means that string should be ignored.
Any guitar player will tell you that a guitar that is not tuned sounds terrible so be sure to have it tuned. It is not hard to do and you should be able to do it on your own. For beginning start playing notes on single strings and get acquainted with notions like slide, vibrato, pull-off and hammer-on.
Now you are ready to play chords. They are nothing more than a group of notes played at the same time. It can be very discouraging to play them at first but that is only until your fingers get used to move like that. Exercise as many chords as you can and remember that a lot of songs can be played with only a few chords.
As easy as guitar tablature is to read as hard it is to play songs that you have never heard before. Tabs do not include the rhythm of the song. Another shortcoming is the fact that tab notation can only be read by guitar players while standard notation can be read by any instrument player, including a guitar player with experience.
