After approximately 4 years into getting a church plant going in the principal Charlotte area, we woke up, looked around us and realized that we really aren't the only ones doing what we're doing in the city. I know it sounds strange, but it is so easy to get so focused on your own issues as a young body, a neophyte spiritual body, trying to get things moving, or even just surviving your first few years financially, that you skip to look up from time to time and catch sight of what's going on around.
And then one day, for no particular reason, you wake up and recognize that you are not alone, and that there any number of people doing exactly the same things as you, and they are not the competition, but rather a wellspring of friendship, support and common cause. And then you ask yourself why it took so long to get in touch with them, even just to say hello, this is who we are, and why we're here?
Lately we have become much more concerned at City Church in contacting same organizations in Charlotte with similar values and hopes, and in starting to build likely productive relationships with them.
What created this change of heart, and why didn't we do it earlier? Probably, it is just something that takes place once you start to mature in courage in your own identity, and you're no longer so anxious concerning sheer survival month to month. It truly isn't that much separate from growing up as an individual. Once you get over the worst of your growing pains, and start to comprehend who you are, what you're about, and mature in courage in that identity, it becomes a lot less complicated to open yourself up and make new friends with folks who might have similar principles and dreams. And then who knows what might come out of those friendships.usually the most surprising and fruitful turns for a fledgling organization like our own!
How many of the things we suppose to carry out might be better done in cooperation with others? The answer is significantly a lot. We are very absorbed as an organization in mobilizing our people to get engaged in Social Action projects, all over the city. But honestly, as a small-scale organization we are fairly limited in what we can do. How much better it would be to link up with another similar organization close by, and in so doing perhaps carry out more than double what we might finalize by sharing resources, ideas and people. The outcome will most likely be exponential.
So this year we really wish to look around us, and begin to make friends with others who share our beliefs and dreams. We know they are out there, and we have already started to meet a few. It is an exciting moment for us, and who knows quite where it will bring us. But it holds out a promise of new life, new prospects and most especially, new friendships. And what could be better than that?
