When Jesus was resurrected, He appeared to His apostles and rebuked them for their lack of faith. He said to them "Go into all the world and preach the Good News to all creation". It's in Mark 16:14-15. This is the mandate from the Risen God to His apostles and to us whom they represent.

What is the Good news that Jesus Christ was referring to? The Good News is Jesus who died for the remission of our sins, was resurrected and will be coming again for us to be with Him again. Isn't that the best news ever?

Since the earliest history of the Christian church, in some form or another, Christians -the people of God, the church have had to suffer persecution in propagating the Gospel. Sadly until today, it became clear that in some places and in various forms, people of God, the living church who are sent to preach the Good News are punished and harassed. In all ages, the church passes through persecution and oppression from fulfilling this divine mandate.

Who is the persecuted church? They are the people of God who are harassed and punished for preaching the Good News. Today, they are the Christians who have committed themselves to help spread the Good News to any part of the world. Unfortunately, in one form or another, persecution continues to happen mostly in nations where preaching the Good News is restricted. These people have sacrificed their lives to bring the Good News to all the world, even if it means their lives will be at risk. But their strong faith moved them in responding to the call of God.

The persecuted church needs the support of the Christian community. Today, some of them are arrested, suffered imprisonment and worst of all, they are executed. Their families and loved ones that are left in their respective homes need emotional and financial assistance, among other things.

We can do something to help the persecuted church. The Good News will never be shared without these modern apostles who committed their lives in obedience to God's command. To encourage them to continue propagate the Good News, you may either give relief to their families or provide assistance by coordinating and requesting for the release of imprisoned Christians in areas where preaching of the Gospel is restricted. Above all, we can help by praying for them. Nothing beats the power of prayer.
